A native of northeast Ohio, Attorney Adam VanHo has earned the reputation of being one of Ohio's toughest trial and appellate attorneys.
Adam serves of counsel at the Akron law firm of Burdon and Merlitti, where he represents individuals and businesses with a variety of legal needs in trial and appellate courts throughout Ohio. In addition to representing businesses and individuals in civil and administrative matters, Adam serves as an defense attorney for people who have been accused of felonies, misdemeanors or traffic offenses, including those charged with DUI / OVI in Ohio.
Adam is also one of a select number of attorneys certified by the Ohio Supreme Court to handle death penalty cases on behalf of indigent defendants, and is one of only eighty-three attorneys statewide certified to handle death penalty cases at both the trial and appellate levels.
Prior to entering private practice, Adam served as an Assistant Attorney General, and was a member of the Attorney General's elite Capital Crimes (Death Penalty) Unit and Special Prosecutions Section. He also served as a special prosecutor in Summit and Jefferson counties, and prosecuted on behalf of the Ohio Organized Crime investigations Commission (OOCIC). Adam served as an assistant county prosecutor in Summit and Montgomery counties, and has been on the auxiliary faculty at the graduate and undergraduate levels at the University of Akron.
Adam is a graduate of the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University, where he was a member of the trial team and an Articles Editor at the Cleveland State Law Review. During law school, Adam interned at the Philadelphia (Pennsylvania) District Attorney’s Office, the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, the United States Attorney’s Office in Cleveland, and on the third trial of Doctor Sam Sheppard.
Adam has been a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Akron and Dayton bar associations, the Italian-American Citizens Club in Cuyahoga Falls, and the Sons and Daughters of Herman. He is a member of First United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls. He has also served on a number of community boards, including serving as statewide Legal Counsel for the Ohio Young Democrats.
A native of Euclid, Adam and his family live in Akron’s historic Firestone Park neighborhood.
