Happy tenth anniversary to the Ohio Innocence Project !
If you are not familiar with the Ohio Innocence Project, they have worked to free wrongfully-convicted individuals from around Ohio in a variety of cases. In Summit County alone, OIP has helped free seventeen individuals who were wrongfully convicted -- but the work continues.
OIP has released a video to celebrate their first ten years. You can check it out here.
I had the opportunity to work with the Ohio Innocence Project in freeing Dewey Jones, who served twenty years in prison for a murder he did not commit. If it was not for the Ohio Innocence Project, as well as the Exonoration Project at the University of Chicago, Dewey would still be sitting in an Ohio prison for a murder that DNA evidence now shows he did not commit.
Having practiced law as a prosecutor, Assistant Attorney General and attorney in private practice, I can honestly say this is my favorite moment (thus far) of practicing law.
