Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Today is St. Patrick's Day -- the day in which many Americans of Irish-American heritage celebrate their Irishness (and the day many non-Irish-Americans celebrate pretending to be Irish).
For many native Clevelanders, today will involve a trip to Slyman's for corned beaf, attending Cleveland's world famous St. Patrick's Day Parade, a pint (or three) of Guinness, dressing in green, attending mass and visitng their favorite Irish bars.
Please remember that law enforcement will be out in full force on this St. Patrick's Day. Police are already planning for OVI / DUI checkpoints throughout northeast Ohio, as well as planning saturation in areas like the Warehouse District and downtown Akron.
Please remember to have a plan before you go out and celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Designate a sober driver to get you from place to place or arrange for rides in advance. Additionally, many taxi companies will be running extra cabs, and some organizations will be setting up dial-a-ride programs.
